You’ll feel just a little bit better chilling at the beach or by the poolside when you can light up a joint. Therefore, we have made a list of 420 friendly countries: places around the world where weed is legal. So you can enjoy the ultimate holiday!
But first we have to clarify some things. Because just like the complicated tolerance policy in the Netherlands, many countries have found their own way to ‘legalise’ weed. And in most cases it does not mean that you can buy or use as much as you want without interference by the police.

Decriminalisation
Most countries have adopted a policy of ‘decriminalisation’. The possession or use of cannabis is often not punished or punishment is the same as traffic offences such as driving through a red light. For convenience, we have not included these countries in this list, but you will find them here.
Countries where weed is legal
Countries that have legalised recreational use of cannabis include Canada, Georgia, Malta, Mexico, South Africa, Thailand and Uruguay, 19 US states and the Australian Capital Territory in Australia. The commercial sale of recreational cannabis has been legalised nationwide in just three countries: Canada, Thailand and Uruguay.
