Amnesia Haze, a timeless classic that changed the game worldwide. You’ve probably smoked this buzzing sativa strain that’s on the menu of every coffeeshop in Amsterdam. But why does everyone have it, and where did it come from?
Like almost all old-school classic strains, Amnesia Haze’s exact origin is mysterious, but this is the most accepted theory.
The original Amnesia came from USA breeding work by David ‘Sam the Skunkman’ Watson in the 1990’s using varied genetics from Thai, Hawaiian, Jamaican and Afghani strains. This was then thought to have been crossed in The Netherlands with Neville’s Haze. The resulting ‘Amnesia Haze’ was available as a Dutch clone-only strain for several years until it made its transition to a seed variety. Cannabis Cup wins followed in 2004 & 2012 and the Amnesia name became increasingly revered by growers.

Today, hundreds of Haze strains have been bred, and the name that once referred to a single Haze plant now refers to an entire varietyof cultivars.
Flavour
Amnesia strains will usually showcase lemon-like flavours mixed with a little earthiness. Breaking open the buds gives off a faint spicy scent, which may be familiar to fans of other strains in the Haze family. Despite all this richness, smoke is smooth when inhaled. The taste, both immediately and when exhaled, is again typical of Haze strains, with a spicy and citrus-infected flavor. This can be a pungent strain, and the smell of smoke may linger.
Effect
Typically containing high levels of THC and being sativa-dominant, Amnesia has the potential to provide an energising, euphoric and uplifting high with huge cerebral effects. For the beginner stoners out there, be careful. This is not a strain to puff on too much. Take a couple of hits and assess yourself. Amnesia Haze is a good choice for focusing on work in an isolated setting. Its energizing high is more likely to leave you wired than sleepy, so smoking shortly before bedtime is not recommended.
There are thousands of hybridized weed strains in the world, and if you traced them all back to their true origins, you’d probably end up at haze. It is the genetic backbone of the world’s best-known sativas.
